5. Welcome To My Dark Side

Happy Reading~

The soft hum of the bike just stopped in front of a house with tall gates. The nameplate outside the house read: Daiwik Residence.

Krivan parked his matte black sports bike and turned off the ignition. He took off his helmet and looked into the mirror running a hand through his hair to tame the hair messed up by the helmet. He sighed from exhaustion and kicked the stand down letting the bike rest, then swung his leg over it casually adjusting his bag's straps over his shoulder.

He entered the house quietly when he spotted 'him' the couch. His jaw clenched and his hands tightened into fists. He slowly walked not to attract attention but a voice halted him in the track, "Ab apne baap ko ignore bhi karne lage ho yahi tameez seekhke aaye ho?"

(So now you've started ignoring your own father. These are the manner you've learned?)

His face was a painting of nothing but shadows he had lived all his life, all the mistakes and regrets he has, all the miseries he faced. He slowly stared into his father's eyes, "Kaash aapko apni zindagi se hi ignore kar sakta mai."

(I wish I could just ignore you from my life.)

He smiled mockingly and said after a pause, "Har galti ke liye mujhe blame karna band kijiye papa."

(Stop blaming me for every mistake papa.)

His father had an irritated annoyed expression, "Maine koi bewajah tumhe blame nahi kiya hai Krivan. Galti ki hai toh uske liye stand lo, usse accept karo."

(I am not blaming you without a reason Krivan. If you've made a mistake take a stand for it, accept it.)

"Meri kab kitni galti hai ye toh humesha se aapne hi decide kiya hai. Aapko koi farak nahi padhta ki mai kya feel karta hu aapko bas humesha se aap hi sahi lagte hai. Iss ghar mein agar kuch mera hai toh voh hai yeh ghutan jo mujhe jeene nahi deti."

(You've always been the one to decide when and how much of a mistake I've made. It never matters to you how I feel, you've always believed you're the only one who's right. The only thing in this house that truly belongs to me is this suffocation, the one that never lets me breathe.)

The air around them was getting heavy by the weight of emotions. Without waiting for a moment more in that space, he turned on his heels and ran upstairs towards his safe haven, his room.

He entered his room. A dark, monotonous room painted in dark grey which screamed both power and sorrow. There was nothing but silence around him with no colours. He closed the door with a loud thud, his bag thrown in a corner where no one can see it. He slumped down on his knees with his back resting at the door.

His eyes drifted towards his desk in front. He slowly walked towards it his heart heavy with emotions. His hand rested on his drawer handle as he slowly pulled it open, revealing a small photo frame. A dim light managed to brighten up a small part in the Krivan's dark life.

Tears were now rolling uncontrollably from his eyes. All his miseries came back to him like a permanent thing. He remebered his favourite childhood memory when this Daiwik Residence felt like home with love, laughter and warmth everywhere.

A soft sad smile touched his lips as he turned away and went inside the washroom, carrying his clothes and a heavy heart.

The soft strumming of his guitar echoed through the dimly lit room. Krivan sat cross-legged on his bed, fingers instinctively finding familiar chords as his mind wandered elsewhere.

'Dhun', her dhun.

"Shrivika...", her name escaped his lips in the softest whisper like it was barely audible. Her name slipped from his mouth sounded very normal, nothing extraordinary, but only he knew how lighter he felt just by taking a single name.

Her name ignited a fire within him which wasn't ready to subside anytime soon. A girl who he just knew the name of and that song she played, these two things were enough to leave a lasting impression on him.

"Hmm...Tere iss dil ko churaane ke liye...Hai yahi ek dhun..." He hummed the lyrics he heard just a while ago and now the lines which made a place in his heart without any second thought.

(Hmm...To steal this heart of yours...This is the only melody I have.)

"Yeh kya ho raha hai mujhe?" He asked himself unbelievably, the scene replaying in his head on loop.

(What is happening to me?)

"Ma...I'm back," Atharv's voice rang out in the house. It was way too quiet, he was used to chaos, this silence was weird for him. "Maa kahan ho?"

(Maa... I'm back. Maa where are you?)

"Kitchen mein hu Atharv, kya hua? Kyu itna chilla rahe ho jese toofan aagya ho?" His mother's voice came out from the kitchen.

(Im in the kitchen Atharv, what happened? Why are you shouting like there's a hurricane outside?)

"Maa aapka beta kisi toofan se kam hai kya?" He asked with a smirk on his face and an eyebrow raised up.

(Maa is your son any less than a hurricane?)

"Aapko pata hai aaj ek naya transfer student school mai aaya aur guess what usse mere saath school ka first day bitana pada." He narrated the whole story to his mother with undying enthusiasm.

(Do you know a new student transferred into my school and guess what he had to spend his first day with me.)

"Achha? Phir usse ghar kab lekar aayega tu?" His mother asked with an excited expression. She was looking forward to meet the new boy Atharv was so enthusiastic about.

(Really? Then when are you bringing him home?)

"Shaam ko jaunga na football khelne tab bol dunga kabhi aa jaye." Atharv said with a tinge of happiness in his voice.

(I'll tell him to come sometime when I go to play football in the evening.)

The sun hung low but bright, casting a soft golden hue over the surroundings. It was that magical hour-between four and five in the evening, when the heat had mellowed down and the breeze had just begun to cool. Dust rose gently beneath running feet, catching the sunlight like glitter in the air.

"Maa I'm going to the ground, aap apna khayal rakhna aur zyada kaam mat karna. Thoda kaam iss chudail se bhi karao, ye kis din kaam aaegi. Pure din bas baithi rehti hai aur phone chalati rehti hai." He walked out but not before delivering a smack on his little sister's head who was curled up on the couch scrolling through her phone.

(Maa I'm going to the ground, take care of yourself and don't do too much work. Make this witch do some work too, let her be of some use. She just uses her phone all day.)

"Khabardaar kisi ne meri rajkumari se kuch kaha bhi toh." His father's voice came from behind.

(I dare anyone says anything about my princess.)

"Nikal le beta Atharv, papa aagye toh aaj ka match bhul jaa phir tu toh." He thought to himself gulping nervously.

(Get out of here Atharv, forget today's match if papa comes here.)

"Accha chalo jaa raha hu, aata hu thodi der mein."  He said taking the keys of his bike and left for the ground whistling to himself with his duffle bag on his shoulder containing his phone, a water bottle and a towel.

(Okay I'm going, I'll be back in a while.)

"Krivan mere bhai, mere chand ke tukde kya hua tu yahan khelne aaya hai ya marne?" Atharv asked with curiously with a hint of annoyance.

(Krivan my brother, the apple of my eye are you here to play or to die?)

Krivan internally rolled his eyes, "Haan Atharv bas hogaya do minute ruk ja." He continued tying his shoelaces properly.

(Yeah Atharv just two minutes I'm almost done.)

Atharv muttered something to himself and then turned to him, "Chalo bhai chalo jang shuru hone wali hai!"

(Come on let's go boys the war is about to start.)

"Dramebaaz saala!" Krivan cursed under his breath. "Haan chalo," he said to Atharv who was busy drilling holes in opponent team's heads with his stare.

(Drama queen! Yeah let's go.)

"Oye Athrav!" someone shouted from the ground while they were entering the field.

"Aur bhai Kabir kaisa hai? Aaj school nhi aaya saale? Akela fasa diya Miss Chashmish ke saath  tune mujhe."

(Oh hey Kabir what's up? Bro you didn't come to school today? You left me alone with Miss Glasses.)

"Arey yaar koi rishtedaar marr gaya tha vahan gaya tha. Wese yeh kon hai?" Kabir asked eyeing Krivan who was busing checking out the other team they were playing against with.

(Dude some relative died so I had to go there. By the way who's that?)

"Yeh Krivan hai new transfer student, aaj se apna bhai hai". Athrav said introducing Krivan to other boys also.

(This is Krivan, a new transfer student, our bro from today.)

"Sup I'm Krivan Daiwik." Krivan introduced himself to everyone while shaking hands with the boys.

"Agar ab sabka milna milana hogya ho toh khele?" An impatient voice of Atharv rang out.

(If everyone is done shall we play?)

"Ye banda excited toh aise reheta hai jaise aaj hi bhai Football Cup jeet lega." A boy among them whispered which extracted a few giggles from everyone including Krivan.

(This guy is excited as if he will win the Football Cup today.)

"Bhai idhar pass kar kya kar raha hai. Dekh abhi kaise sabke hosh udata hoon apni super flying kick se." Atharv shouted towards Krivan while running towards the goal.

(Bro are you passing the ball or what? Look how everyone will be in awe after seeing my super flying kick.)

"Yeh le!" he passed the ball to Atharv with full force. The ball moved efficiently as Atharv kicked the ball with full force towards the goal post when the goal keeper dived with full-force to stop the ball but the speed of the ball cut right through the goalkeeper's reach. And it was a goal, a fierce one.

(Take it!)

Whole team was in awe when the ball hit the goal post and they all shouted together in unison as they won the match.

"Atharv!Atharv!Atharv!", his name was all everyone could hear in the moment. The name was enchanted to the soul of the ground, like it was meant to be here at the ground at this point.

Atharv kapoor owned the ground with his skills, not only the ground, he was mean to own the entire game with his ability.

"Congratulations!! Bhai jeet gaye match!" Krivan congratulated Atharv.

(Congratulations!! Bro we won the match!)

"Thanks bhai, it was the team work we did aur tune bhi kaafi achha khela." Atharv punched Krivan's shoulder.

(Thanks bro, it was the team work we did and you played well too.)

"It was an easy match, or say tera luck accha tha humesha ki tarah Atharv." The team leader of the opponent team suddenly shouted burning from rage.

(It was an easy match, or let's say the luck was on your side Atharv.)

"Kyu tere baap ne bina luck ke paida kiya tujhe?" Krivan answered in a stern voice full of anger dripping.

(Why did your father gave birth to you without any luck?)

"Dekh bhai tu nahi janta isko toh beech mein mat bol. Samajh aaya?" The opponent wasn't going to back down from the insult.

(Listen bro you don't know him so don't interfere. Understood?)

"Saale yahi pitega samjh aayi? Aage se bakwaas karne se pehele apne baap ka naam seekh kar aana, 'Krivan Daiwik'." Krivan said with a smirk on his face ready to face them.

(I'll beat to a pulp understood? Before saying rubbish in the future learn your father's name, 'Krivan Daiwik'.)

"Tu! Tujhe toh mai dekh lunga school mai!" The boy said gritting his teeth and silently left his self respect tailing behind him.

(You! I'll see you in school!)

Krivan was about to answer him when a voice echoed in his ear, a sweet voice that his heart and mind had memorised too well.
